1. Kohl’s
Return anything, anytime, with or without a receipt at Kohl’s. The only exception is premium electronics, which you can only return within 30 days of purchase. There’s a reason they call it their “Hassle-Free Returns” policy.
2. Macy’s
Macy’s will accept most returns by mail or in-store within 30 days of purchase. Here are some of the rules:
- Store returns are free.
- Star Reward members receive free Return Shipping.
- For Non-Star Reward members, they will deduct a $9.99 Return Shipping fee plus tax, where applicable, from your refund. Sign up for Star Rewards here.
- Returned items must be in original, saleable condition with original tags. Shipping and delivery fees are non-refundable.
- New or gently used cosmetic or fragrance products from Macy’s that do not meet your needs will be accepted for return.
- Items purchased in a store, you must return to a store.
- You can return online purchases to a store or by initiating the return online.
- Items shipped and sold by sellers must be returned by initiating the return online.
Keep in mind that furniture and mattresses have different regulations – take a look at this link. Or check out their full policy here.
3. Target
Regular customers have 90 days to return most items, but RedCard holders get an additional 30 days on top of that. Plus, if you bought an item that’s a Target-owned brand, you have up to an entire year to return it. That’s a nice return policy if you ask me!
4. Anthropologie
At Anthropologie, you can return anything except furniture at any time for any reason via mail or to an Anthropologie store. This makes it one of the most liberal return policies.
5. Athleta
This is another store where you can return anything at any time for any reason. Athleta policy states you have 45 days to return an item, but I’ve heard a lot of people say they’ve returned things later than that with absolutely no hassle. They’re pretty lax about their returns.
6. Bath and Body Works
Bath & Body Works have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. That means if you decide you don’t love that lotion, but you’ve already used one third of it, they’re going to take it back anyway. Although keep in mind, if you don’t have a receipt there’s a 90-day window, and you’re going to get the lowest sale price back in store credit for the item instead. See details on their policy.
7. Bloomingdale’s
You’ll have 90 days to return most Bloomingdale’s purchases for a refund, as long as your purchase is still in saleable condition and still contain all Bloomingdale’s b-tags and designer garment tags. Altered, custom, monogrammed and personalized products are final sale. You cannot exchange or return them, nor are they eligible for price adjustments on prior purchases or promotions.
No receipt? They will issue a merchandise credit. Without proof of purchase, you will receive the lowest selling price in the last 180 days. They will also require you to provide your name, phone number, and address. Check out the full return policy here.
8. Chewy
At Chewy, return your items for free within 365 days of purchase. If you’d like to request a return or replacement, chat with them, send them a message with your order number, or call at 1-800-672-4399.
They do not accept returns or exchanges on prescription medications. However, if the medication you received is incorrect or damaged, they will exchange it for you or provide a refund on a case-by-case basis.
9. Costco
Dissatisfied with an item you purchased? Costco will take it back at any time, with the exception of electronics that have a 90 day window. Not happy with your Costco membership? They’ll also refund that at any time, in full. Find out the details here.
10. Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW)
DSW offers an interesting return policy based on your account status. In general, you have 90 days to return your items, and if you’re a DSW VIP Elite member, you get 365 days. I’ll attach a simple guide that shows fees and return windows, and you can check out their full return policy here.
11. Dick’s Sporting Goods
Dick’s Sporting Goods offers a 90-day return policy on most products. Returns with valid proof of purchase (order number, order confirmation email, original sales receipt, pack slip, or return barcode) will receive a refund based on the initial form of payment. Returns without a proof of purchase must be returned using a valid ID and will receive a store credit for the lowest selling price. You can use the store credit for in-store purchases only. Products must be in a clean and resalable condition.
However, there’s a long list of exclusions and restrictions, which you can find in the full DSG return policy.

Their policy states, “if something’s not working or fitting or standing up to its task or lasting as long as you think it should, we’ll take it back.”
17. Lands’ End
Here’s another company that wants their customers to have lasting satisfaction with their products. Eligible returns received within 90 days of purchase will be issued a refund to the original form of payment when available. And if it’s past 90 days from the date of purchase or without a Lands’ End proof of purchase, they will issue you a Lands’ End Merchandise Credit. Lands’ End has a satisfaction guarantee that simply says, “If you’re not satisfied with any item‚ simply return it to us at any time for an exchange or refund of its purchase price.”
