• Dollar Tree Raised Prices to $1.25!

After 35 years of holding the price of $1, Dollar Tree has raised the price of the majority of its products to $1.25!

Dollar Tree said that the slightly higher prices will give the them more flexibility to reintroduce many “customer favorites” that were previously discontinued because of the $1 price point and for them to introduce new products to its shelves.

The company said the higher price point is a permanent move, and not the result of “short-term or transitory market conditions”. It was also announced that the $1.25 price point will be rolled out to more than 2,00 Dollar Tree stores.

They throw away so much due to poor loading skills. My husband delivers loaded trailers to the stores and they do really stupid things, like loading bleach on top of glass. I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the price increase is due to the loss.

It has it’s pros and cons….. I am absolutely tickled to death about it… only because they started selling my favorite water there (hint water) to pay $1.25 vs $1.59 at the grocery store…. yes please! It is disappointing because I loved to go and splurge on whatever but its actually all for the greater good…. I won’t waste money buying things that I honestly don’t really need to begin with.

DT already makes so much money and over the past couple of years has become a more social accepted place to shop, so in my opinion doing this was unnecessary and just plain greedy! It really is a slap in the face to loyal customers.

in the world of inflation, how the $1 price point was not a sustaining economic business model. They have not changed their price since opening in 1986. The average for business across the board is a raise of 5% an a annual basis. If they had done it that way, they would be almost $6. I understand that going from $1 to $1.25 was a big jump but in the bigger picture, they are still trying s
to keep the price low and also allow products back that they previously had to discontinue, as well as cater to the customer looking for a low price.

Hasn’t changed where I live yet! I don’t mind really. Everything costs more these days. Although with gas and groceries going up up up it would be nice if things would remain the same.

They should’ve brainstormed a name change before the price increase lol!

That’s incredibly disappointing. I guess I and others just stopped using them as a go-to. 🙁 25% inflation is way beyond the average of 7.5%

They have not increased the price since 1986!!!

        • They also haven’t increased the quality. 🙂 It used to be that Everything’s A Dollar and later Dollar Tree worked similarly to Big Lots, buying unsold lots and banking on moving them quickly by pricing them at a dollar. For a while now, Dollar Tree sells mostly their own products, manufactured in China — that’s what Greenbrier or whatever the name is really is. So gone is the diversity, quality, and occasional jackpot of something like sterling silver earrings for $1, or in-demand books and CDs. So I don’t think it’s exactly a hardship on Dollar Tree’s part to live up to their name. 🙂 They’ve controlled their losses just fine by switching to selling their own products. Notably, Dollar Tree has a little bit of a history of sacrificing customer experience for profit; if you’ll remember, they were caught selling non-FDA approved toothpaste and other goods that they bought in unsold bulk from Mexico — goods that claimed to have ingredients like fluoride in the toothpaste, yet…testing showed it to be fluoride-free. Some might consider that to be taking advantage of the economically disadvantaged, and those same people might not shed too many tears over the lack of price increases and their looming loss of customers. Just saying.

😂😂😂5 quarters😂😂😂 it don’t matter, the 2 in my city never has anything! 🤦🏾‍♀️

Some of their stuff is not worth $1 or $1.25 and you can get it cheaper elsewhere. But for a lot of their stuff $1.25 is still a really good deal. I mean, I will keep shopping there. But they should rename the store and have more stuff priced under a dollar (like their candy), and going up to the new $1.25 price.

I’ll pay the extra 25 cents. What products I can get cheaper at Walmart I’ll go there, but there are still some excellent deals that are worth the $1.25. Some days I get deals I couldn’t afford elsewhere.

I’m disappointed but I guess it is to be expected. I wonder if they considered that some of their competition, like Wal-Mart, will be cheaper. I know I have picked up things not on my shopping list because of the reasoning “Well I’m here and it’s a dollar..still cheaper than Wal-Mart.” But no more!
