More About the Reasons for a Recall

    Trader Joes

On March 16, 2023, Trader Joe’s received word from their frozen fruit provider that their Organic Tropical Fruit Blend might have been contaminated with Hepatitis A. Hepatitis A is a potentially dangerous virus that can inflame the liver and cause symptoms like fever, exhaustion, nausea, abdominal pain, and jaundice. But how is Hepatitis A spreadable through fruit? The virus is typically discovered in the feces of infected individuals, and it can spread to food when it does. It might be challenging to identify contamination simply by looking at the food because fruits and vegetables grown in contaminated soil or water can also carry the virus. No illnesses have been recorded thus far, according to Trader Joe’s, and all potentially impacted products have been taken off the market and discarded.

    Affected Products

Trader Joes Organic Tropical Fruit Mix

The affected items are 32-Ounce/2-Pound plastic bags of frozen Trader Joe’s Organic Tropical Fruit Mix (SKU# 51191), according to Trader Joe’s recall notice. The “Best By” dates for the goods are 04/25/24, 05/12/24, 05/23/24, 05/30/24, and 06/07/24. They were only offered for sale in the United States.

What Should You Do? Do not consume the recalled frozen fruit if you purchased it. Alternatively, return the item to any Trader Joe’s location for a complete refund, regardless of where you initially purchased it or the lack of a receipt. You might even dispose of the item in a sealed bag or container to prevent others from eating it. Just remember to wash your hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap afterward. Consumers should call Trader Joe’s Customer Relations weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT at (626) 599-3817 if they have any questions or concerns about the recall.
