Dollar General Closing 96 Stores & 45 Popshelf Stores
Dollar General has announced they will close 96 Dollar General stores and 45 Popshelf stores. The locations were selected based on their current and predicted future performance and operating conditions. There are over 20,000+ Dollar General stores across 48 states, so these store closings represent less than 1% of their total store count. However, the Popshelf closures represent about 20% off their 220 stores. They have yet to announce the location closures, closing dates, or if there are going to be any liquidation sales.
Joann Fabrics and Crafts Closing All Stores

Joann Fabrics and Crafts is officially shutting down all 790+ of its locations nationwide after filing for bankruptcy—again. If you’re a fan of crafting, sewing, or home décor, this is a big deal.
Going-Out-of-Business Sales Have Begun – But Are the Deals Any Good?
Going-out-of-business sales have already started, but don’t expect jaw-dropping deals just yet. So far, discounts are hovering around 30-40%, with select fabrics marked down to 60%. Christmas items are seeing the steepest cuts at 80% off, but that’s still lower than what some stores offered in January. The longer you wait, the better the deals might get—but you also risk finding empty shelves.
Gift Cards and Returns: What you Need to Know Before Shopping
A big heads-up for anyone holding a Joann gift card: The company has stopped accepting returns, and gift cards will soon be worthless if the bankruptcy court allows it. Also, online orders? No longer an option.
Want Store Fixtures and Displays? They’re for Sale Too
What about the stores themselves? Everything inside is up for grabs. Furniture, fixtures, and equipment are all being sold off, so if you need display racks or shelving, this might be your chance.
When Will the Sales End?
As for how long you have to shop, the liquidation sale is expected to last around 12 weeks, wrapping up by the end of May—or sooner if inventory runs out. If you’ve been meaning to stock up on yarn, fabric, or crafting supplies, now’s the time to make your move. See the full list of Joann stores scheduled to close here.
Forever 21 Closing All Locations
Forever 21 has about 350 locations and an online retail site, but it seems like all store locations are going to be closed, as they filed for bankruptcy on March 16th for the second time in six years. Their website will remain live for shoppers as they shutter locations.
The initial group of stores that have begun their closing sales will close on March 30th, while the remaining locations will close by May 1st. Also, if you have gift cards, they will be valid until April 15th, but I’d recommend using them as soon as you can!
Moreover, starting on April 21st, they are expected to lay off approximately 350 workers as they are shutting down their LA headquarters.
Big Lots Update: Stores Saved, Employees Retain Jobs!
Big Lots fans, there’s a twist! While the company announced going-out-of-business sales earlier, there’s now good news. Big Lots has agreed to transfer many assets to Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, LLC. As a result, 200-400 stores could remain open, with employees keeping their jobs!
Gordon Brothers, known for brands like Roses Express and Maxway, operates primarily in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Though specific store locations haven’t been confirmed, it’s likely these areas will see stores stay open.
This agreement is still pending approval from the Bankruptcy Court, but it’s a hopeful development. High inflation and interest rates had pushed Big Lots into Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September. Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge!
Walgreens Closing 1,200 Stores
Walgreens is closing over 1,200 stores by 2027 – 500 of those will be closed during 2025, but has not announced which one will be closed! The decision of store closings is driven by rising costs, reimbursement challenges, and competition from online retailers.
Family Dollar to Close 1000 Stores
Dollar Tree announced that it would close nearly 1000 branded stores. They shut down 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of 2024, and will shut down 370 other stores over the next years, the same as 30 Dollar Tree stores at that period! Recently they were fined $41.6 million due to the presence of rodent activity at the warehouse, which is the main reason for closing hundreds of their stores!
The company also has a net loss of $1.7 billion! Dollar Tree, which acquired Family Dollar nearly a decade ago, has not released a comprehensive list of the locations it is closing but many of the stores might still be offering sales of up to 75% off. To take advantage of these deals, you can find the nearest Family Dollar here!
On the other hand, Aldi is opening 800 New Aldi Stores Nationwide!
Giant retailers also kicked off the year with store closures. Store closures are standard practice among traditional retailers who often evaluate the profitability of each location. In this round of closures, however, more retailers are taking the digital experience into consideration as well as the location and appropriate size of their stores. You can find a list of these retailers affected by closures below:
Foot Locker Closing Up to 420 Stores

I want sales!
I’m glad express is closing. They have filed bankruptcy multiple times. They support child labor. Treat employees like crap, way overpriced.
I get it I use to work there. the problem was not even getting the products it was people stealing the products before anyone could buy them. as for the app or online matching no stores app or online matches because they do not have real time data to actually show the item is not there and someone stole it because they are just going off of what they sent to the store and the last inventory count that was made. trust me I have had many fights with many retail stores on my knowledge and experience and how to boost productivity and customer service but the facts are companies do not want to know they are outdated they just want people to care about money and sales above all. which is sad I’m more of a customer and employee on ground floor kind of girl and have ran stores but still that’s how I feel but I still care about bottom line and sales and my company but some things are more important and walgreens, family dollar, walmart, pepboys, bath and body works and etc all need help but they won’t listen and so this list will be longer I’m sure by 2026 and online will be the only thing.
This is awful 😢 I agree forcing people to buy on line …
this is so sad, it will be forcing us to buy online, next is one world money!
Yep.
Got tired of going to Walgreens and them not having sale items in stock even though the website said they were in stock. Also, the online price being different from what’s listed in the store.
Hi! Online and in store prices are usually different since the price in store varies per location. Hope this explains it.
My thoughts exactly!!
Hopefully we can all get some deals
So which of any have some deals?
No way to know at the moment. Hopefully they’ll post something about it soon!
