Don’t ignore this fridge check. A Salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers from Bedner Growers in Florida is now affecting people across 15 states. It’s gotten serious – 26 people are sick and 9 people have been hospitalized.
Nationwide Recall Now Includes Major Grocery Chains
What started with a local recall has quickly snowballed. Big names like Walmart, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Publix, and Albertsons are all pulling cucumber-packed products off their shelves. That includes everything from fresh cucumber slices to veggie trays, deli salads, sushi rolls, and even wraps and subs.
Check Your Fridge If You Shopped Between May 13-23
If you picked up cucumbers or any cucumber-containing foods during that timeframe, it’s time to take a good look at your fridge. When in doubt, toss it out – especially if the items came from the affected states. You can find detailed UPC’s and product lists on the FDA’s recall page.
States With Reported Salmonella Cases
The outbreak isn’t just a Florida problem anymore. So far, cases have been confirmed in Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Be Extra Cautious If You’re in a High-Risk Group
Salmonella can be especially dangerous for kids, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system. If that sounds like someone in your home, double-check everything and stay on the safe side.
