If some of your favorite Kellogg’s cereals look a little different in the near future, there’s a reason why. Kellogg’s is moving away from artificial colors and the preservative BHT across its cereal lineup. The company is expecting to complete the transition by the end of 2026 – an entire year earlier than originally planned. Rather than relying on synthetic dyes, the updated cereals will get their colors from naturally sourced ingredients, including fruit and vegetable juices and other plant-based sources.
According to Doug VanDeVelde, Chief Growth Officer at WK Kellogg Co., finding natural alternatives for every color wasn’t a simple process. However, the company says it has now identified natural solutions and believes the new recipes can maintain the taste and quality consumers expect.
Kellogg’s has removed artificial colors from foods served in schools and, beginning in January, stopped introducing new products that contain artificial colors. Some of the brand’s best-known cereals will also be getting updated recipes. Production of new versions of favorites such as Froot Loops and Apple Jacks is expected to begin later this year, with the reformulated products making their way onto store shelves before 2027.
For families who have grown up with these colorful cereals, the appearance may change slightly, but Kellogg’s says the goal is to keep the familiar flavors while simplifying the ingredient lists. Find more information here!
