Hi Mariel, hope this doesn’t come off in a bad way but I always try to warn people about using smile direct or other online aligners! I work in the dental field and have seen personally how companies like them cause damage to peoples teeth. It’s expensive to fix and takes years in the process so please be wary!!! Invisalign is really the only invisible aligner I would recommend that’s professional and safe and can be covered by insurance to cover some costs as well. Your local dental office or ortho is the only places you should be going for retainers or braces.
AGREED!!!!!!!! Do NOT buy smile direct, I’m a licensed registered dental hygienist and not only can smile direct aligners cause bone loss which is periodontal disease (gum disease) it has so many other huge red flags that are alarming to dental professionals. Example – smile direct Doesn’t require you to physically see a dentist in office to proceed with smile direct alignment treatment, virtual sure but think about this .. say you haven’t seen a dentist in a few years or maybe never but you want to correct your alignment, smile direct makes it seem easier because you don’t have to physically go to the dentist and is also offered at a “cheaper” price.. now take in consideration if you have undiagnosed caries (cavities) or already have present bone loss that hasn’t been properly treated (keep in mind you can have cavities or infection, etc. even if you don’t feel any symptoms or have pain) you can be asymptomatic and still have an infection and if that were the case and if it isn’t properly diagnosed by a licensed dentist and then treated properly FIRST prior to any aesthetic treatment, the infection will not only spread but increasingly process which can cause a number of serious problems.
