• Walmart Will Pay 100% of College Tuition for Its Employees

Starting August 16th, Walmart will cover 100% of the college tuition and books expenses for their associates. For this purpose, in the announcement made on July 27th, the company said that the previous $1 a day fee will be eliminated in order to remove the financial barriers and increase access to the “Live Better U (LBU) Program”.

Approximately 1.5 million Walmart employees will have a chance to grow their careers and earn a degree at 10 participating Academic Partners.

    Universities Included:

    •  Johnson & Wales University
    • University of Arizona
    • University of Denver
    • Pathstream
    • Brandman University
    • Penn Foster
    • Purdue University Global
    • Southern New Hampshire University
    • Wilmington University
    • Voxy EnGen

Besides increasing the number of Academic Partners, the company will support more degree and certificate options. For instance, the associates will be able to get a degree in areas such as business, supply chain management, computer science, computer and network security, cybersecurity, and computing technology.

    Debt-Free Education

The company is looking to invest $1 billion in the training and development of its employees over the next five years with the ultimate goal to attract talent in the ever-changing job market. Subsequently, the participants will have to remain part-time or full-time employees at Walmart in order to be eligible to earn a debt-free college degree.

Since the LBU program was launched in 2018, over 52,000 associates enrolled and 8,000 have already graduated which will allow them to take a step forward in their careers with a significantly higher chance of being promoted or retained at a higher rate. In brief, considering that over 54% of college attendees are taking on debt, the Walmart LBU program will certainly make college more affordable for a multitude of people with aspirations for self-improvement.

They only cover degrees that relate to working for them and you have to be full time and sign a contract to work for them after you graduate from college.
