I had no idea about the peas and legumes. Did the food have any in it?
Yes! Turkey and pork had the least amount, I haven’t checked chicken as my dogs are allergic to it. We lost a dog due to DCM (he was only 7, very young for a Pomeranian), and the vet told us because it was the food he was eating (with peas). Then I researched and yes, legumes cause cardiac problems in dogs (heart failures). So now I’m extra careful with what I feed and read all labels.
Oh wow I’m so sorry. I need to take a better look at what we are feeding our dog.
Wow! So sorry you lost your friend to this. I didn’t know that this is a problem for dogs. Why they put it in their food at all?
Same question, Why do they put artificial colors, carrageenan, cancer causing chemicals and preservatives into people’s food? — this is a huge industry which is about money, not health.
It is big industry that doesn’t work for people. It works for 🤑 Artificial colors create more appealing to the eye product, preservatives are allowing to create products that are shelf stable and last long, etc. They all have supposedly good purposes, but are actually harmful. Especially these new products that are meat free, dairy free, grain free, etc free.
Also, I know this for a fact: our second dog was eating the same food with legumes, and his heart was super enlarged. He was younger so the impact wasn’t that strong. We stopped that food and switched to raw, plus started taurine supplements, his heart went back to a normal size in less than 6 months. I warn all my friends to read labels, to get educated as my husband still cries, 2 years later, about the loss we experienced.
Yeah, I just recently read an article what exactly goes to pets food. Basically all the sick animals, left overs that are not used for people, all ground up and made into food for pets. I know for a fact though how hamburgers are made as my relative decided one time to support a school group who were raising cattle. He paid for one, and then went to butcher to watch and tell exactly what meat he wanted. He was surprised when after cutting all the meat, the butcher asked him if he wanted ground meat because there was nothing left to cut. Basically, all left over went for hamburgers. He doesn’t eat them anymore unless he makes them himself.
Wow this is great ! Thanks
