I went to Target today and they told me I could not use manufacturer’s coupons with a promotion of buy 3 get a $5 gift card. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I was buying Colgate Optic White using the $2/1 coupon from SS.

Thanks, Tina, for your response, and yes, I asked to speak to the manager at the time. I could tell she did not want to call a manager. She allowed the coupons to go thru (when the coupons were scanned, they wouldn’t work). Then she told me about the “new” policy. She said it was to discourage couponers! What??? I tried to explain to her that Target was NOT losing money when customers used manufacturer coupons. She was not rude, but she was not interested in hearing what I had to say.

Last night I called the store manager and he told me that was NOT a new policy. He had never heard of it. He told me to come back this morning and if I had a problem to ask for him. I did go back this morning. The first coupon scanned, but the second one did not work. The cashier over-rode the system automatically without a question! I got 3 tubes of Colgate for $1.56 including tax!

So, don’t believe everything a cashier tells you! Ask to speak to the manager and be insistent!

Yay!! Thank you SO much for sharing your experience Paula! I’m so glad you were able to end up using the coupons. I completely agree with the moral of your story, don’t always assume the cashier has more knowledge than you! And never be afraid to involve management and customer service 🙂 I’m glad you took the time to go back and get it!
